I Do not have the time right now to do a full write up, so please forgive this stripped down peice for now. Suffice it to say, the Capitals started off this series on the right foot. It was an exciting, and at times extremely nerve racking game for Caps fans, and started off badly with Caps coming out flat and sluggish, with lots of give aways. The Penguins jumped to an early lead by taking advantage of the Caps conservative, sloppy and slugging play when Sidney Crosby scoring just 4:09 into the game.
The Capitals would get life not long after that, and would go on the score 3 goals, 1 on their first 5 on 3 power play of the playoffs. The Capitals dominated for stretches, and at times looked flat again. However, on the strength of goals from Dave Steckel, Alex Ovechkin, and Tomas Fleischmann, and some fantastic, heroic, stand on your had and spin around acrobatic goal tending from Simeon Varlamov, would eventually WIN the game 3-2, sending the leigons of red rockin Capitals fans into a frenzy, and on to an evening of savoring and celebrating taking a 1-0 series lead over thier long time nemisis.
I must depart for the D.C. United home match at RFK tonight vs F.C. Dallas, but I will post a full write up later tonight after I return from the game.
LET'S GO CAPS!!!!
